From the Americas to Europe to Asia and to the Pacific and the Oceans and at home in Africa. The craving for an agenda that can instigate progressive development has never been more imperative.

There is therefore an urgent need to objectively address these socio-economic and political problems that plague Igala land. A key step to achieving this objective is the convoking of a regular economic summit to develop and implement an IGALA DEVELOPMENT AGENDA (IDA) that will set in motion, the machinery for the translation of the peoples’ hopes and aspirations into an emergent reality.”

We are pleased to announce that the preparation to host our annual Igala Day is well underway. The organising committee has confirmed that this years event is set for Saturday 03 September 2011, and will be held at the Quality Hotel, the same venue we held our 10th anniversary celebrations two years ago. Full address details and public transport route will be made available nearer the time.

Ukomu Igala, the emerging Pan Igala Umbrella Organization is hosting a dialogue session with candidates from Kogi East Senatorial District vying for offices at the forthcoming general elections at local, state, and national levels from all political parties.

Date: Saturday March 26, 2011

Venue: F. S. Idachaba Lecture Theater, Kogi State University, Anyigba

Time: 10.00 AM Prompt

Keynote Speaker: Professor Francis Idachaba, an accomplished Igala son and a distinguished Agricultural Economist, outstanding education administrator, and a renowned international development specialist.

The dialogue session will afford the candidates an opportunity to present directly to the electorate, their visions for the development of Igala Land when they get into office. It will also afford them the opportunity to listen to the priorities that a broad section of Igala Communities at home and in Diaspora would want their elected representatives to pursue. These priorities were collated through an open and transparent process in the view of Igala sons and daughters all over the world.

Ukomu Igala is committed to providing a credible voice to the collective aspirations of the Igala people, and work towards the advancement and development of Igala land. The organisation is a partnership between Igala communities in the US/Canada, UK/Europe, and other non-political Igala organizations in Nigeria and abroad. The Interim leader of the organization is Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim SAN, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees is Professor Francis S. Idachaba.

People expected also include party leaders, traditional rulers, leaders of non-political organizations, and opinion leaders.

The Kogi State Union UK (KSUUK) was on 3rd April hosted for the first time by one of its member unions, the Ebira Union at the All Saints Community Centre, Old Kent Road London. The new format for KSUUK meetings requires that every member association of KSUUK host host its general meetings on a rotational basis. Igala UK was well represented at the meeting by members and executive led by Bakwo Abdullahi the Chairman.

The meeting saw attendees from people outside Kogi state as well, notably guest speakers which included the Mayor of Waltham Forest Council Cllr Anna Mbachu. Mayor Mbachu who is the first female black mayor in the UK, gave a very inspirational talk about Women Empowerment in meeting with Millennium Development Goals.  Other speakers were the PDP UK Women’s leader Madam Vicky and Mr. Ayo Audu, the Outreach Consultant (Nigeria/Ghana) for the International Organisation for Migration who also gave very good talks of their own.

Igala UK will be next in line to host KSUUK on Saturday May 29th and arrangements are already being made to have speakers, including the Mayor, attend the meeting so more people can benefit from the important information that was shared.
